It raises the slab yield of the island considerably and it forces the vein alignment to be planned before the first pass of the saw. Full-height backsplashes follow the same logic. Instead of a short strip, stone runs from the deck to the underside of the upper cabinets, scribed to walls that are almost never plumb. We template those in place, machine the outlet openings at the shop, and dry-set the panel before anything gets bonded.

Detail Standards: Seam Tolerance, Edge Consistency, Reveal
Three details separate a high-end install from a competent one. The seam should be flat enough that a fingernail cannot catch it and tinted closely enough that you have to be told where it is. The edge profile has to stay consistent around every return, including the short one behind the faucet where installers get lazy. And the reveal at an undermount sink, the strip of polished stone between the cutout and the bowl, has to be even the whole way around.
None of that is luck. It comes from cutting the miters on the same setup, polishing the reveal by hand after the machine work, and dry-fitting the pieces on horses before they ever touch the cabinets.

Yes. We walk the distributor yards with you, tag the exact bundle, and hold it in your name until the template is done. What seam tolerance do you hold to?
Our target is a joint you cannot feel with a fingernail and cannot pick out from standing height. That means the two pieces are pulled flush with seam setters rather than shimmed and filled, and the adhesive is tinted to the darker of the two adjoining colors. On a book-matched layout the seam also has to land on the mirror line, which we mark at the shop.
Do you install full-height slab backsplashes?
We do, and it is one of the most requested details in Bee Cave. Stone runs from the deck to the underside of the wall cabinets, with outlet and switch openings machined at the shop from the template rather than cut on site. Walls in these houses are rarely plumb, so the panel gets scribed and dry-set before it is bonded.
