Sun City Texas opened in June 1995 on a tract of roughly 5,300 acres north of Williams Drive, and the houses built across it were designed for people who intended to stay put. Countertops are one of the details that decide whether staying put stays comfortable.

An edge profile is usually sold as a style choice. It is also an ergonomic one.
A square arris looks crisp and is unpleasant to catch a hip on. An eased or rounded profile gives a hand something to close around, which matters if you steady yourself on the counter on the way past. Bullnose and half-bullnose profiles do that best. A mitered build-up can be rounded on the outer edge too, so you get the thick modern look without the sharp corner.
On peninsulas and island ends we will radius the outside corners rather than leaving them square. It costs nothing in appearance and it removes a real hazard at hip height. On stone, both the profile and the radius are cut with hand routers or CNC machines at the shop, so the finish is consistent all the way around rather than being ground in on site.
Victorian Houses Around the Courthouse Square Where Nothing Is Level
The other half of Georgetown is a different job entirely. The Victorian commercial and residential architecture around the 1911 Williamson County Courthouse, and out through the University Avenue and Elm Street district, is genuinely old, and old houses move.
Floors slope. Walls bow. Cabinet runs installed in the 1970s sit on a base that has been settling since before anyone reading this was born. Stone will not follow any of that, so the fitting work happens before the fitting. We level and shim cabinet rails, we scribe the back edge to the actual wall line, and where a gap is too wide to scribe out we absorb it in a taller stone backsplash return.
Templating in these houses happens after demolition. Plaster, lath and rebuilt cabinetry hide too much variation for a measurement taken over the existing tops to be trusted.
